Cultivating the good life for ALL of our children.
About us
**IMPORTANT NOTE - PLEASE APPLY FOR ALL POSITIONS THROUGH OUR POSTS, NOT THROUGH THE LINKEDIN-GENERATED JOBS. Nebraska Children’s mission is to create positive change for children through community engagement. Working with local, state, and national partners, Nebraska Children cultivates the good life for all of our children, from cradle to career. We envision a Nebraska where all children have the resources and support needed to realize their full potential. Nebraska Children and Families Foundation has a unique approach to solving large, complex social issues that affect our state’s children. It’s based on two core beliefs: 1. Prevention works. It’s the most effective and fiscally responsible approach for addressing complex social problems. 2. Channeling a community’s existing resources toward a common goal will maximize their effectiveness. Every initiative we undertake aligns with these principles. Our programs are preventive in nature, designed to keep children out of the welfare and criminal justice systems from birth through age 24. And our approach encompasses all the resources a community has to offer, helping to ensure community ownership of the process and outcomes. The end goal is to prepare all of Nebraska’s children for success in school and in life.

It's a beautiful story told from the perspective of a young girl, Mariela, as she discovers more about her culture while bonding with her family over pupusas. Yesterday, families with young children at Educare Omaha at Indian Hill, celebrated the release of “My Mom is a Chef.” The book was written by Vanessa Jovel and her daughter Mariela. Inspired by their Salvadorian heritage, this heartwarming story celebrates cultural pride through the art of cooking. The Nebraska Growing Readers program has helped Vanessa achieve her dream of becoming an author, highlighting the vital role of parent voices in our community. Laura Cady, Early Literacy Specialist at Nebraska Children, emphasizes that these books are more than just stories—they are windows into diverse experiences, cultures, and languages. For Mariela, seeing herself reflected in the stories she reads is incredibly empowering. This event was organized by Nebraska Growing Readers, a partnership between Nebraska Department of Education, Nebraska Children and Families Foundation, NCFL Nebraska, and Unite for Literacy to expand access to books across the state by identifying book deserts and providing those communities with greater book access for Nebraska’s youngest children. They shared their creative videos for improving our environment as part of the #SlingshotChallenge from National Geographic Society. As part of the project, students from Broken Bow shared a video they created which highlights the effects of food waste and encourages high school students to take action to “be the change” in combating food waste. 🎉 Congratulations to Garfield County for investing in vital community infrastructure through the opening of Sandhills First Steps in @Burwell, Nebraska. The investment goes beyond providing access to childcare to families -- it's a game changer for the rural community. Ensuring families have access to childcare plays a direct role in economic development for rural communities such as Burwell. Melissa Polinski, Assistant VP for Early Childhood with Communities for Kids, captured the essence of the collaboration, "It's about all community sectors coming together to support and sustain early childhood care. This milestone is not just for the community, it's a win for the entire state." Today, we celebrate the achievement of Sandhills First Steps! Thank you for investing in your community and laying the groundwork for a brighter tomorrow for everyone! https://bit.ly/4bjlksu #GarfieldCounty #Nebraska #RuralEconomicImpact #CommunitiesForKids #ChildcareDevelopment
