Doane University is the oldest private college or university in Nebraska. Founded in 1872 as Doane College, its main campus in Crete is home to the College of Arts and Sciences, which offers undergraduate programs for traditional, residential students. As a comprehensive university rooted in the liberal arts, Doane is also recognized for its continuing education programs in the College of Education, College of Business, College of Professional Studies, and School of Integrative Learning, which have undergraduate and graduate programs at satellite campuses in Lincoln and Omaha, as well as programs that are available fully online.
