We are thrilled to announce the advancement of two exceptional engineers at the Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT) - Kyle Keller and Brandie Neemann. Kyle Keller: With over a decade of experience at NDOT, Kyle, a Scottsbluff native and University of Nebraska-Lincoln graduate, has demonstrated outstanding leadership and expertise in project scoping and roadway design. As Assistant Roadway Design Engineer, he oversaw notable projects such as the US-275 Expressway and the I-80 expansion to Pleasant Dale. Now, as Project Development Engineer/Division Head, Kyle will bring his expertise to internal workforce development and enhance project planning processes. "Kyle's expertise as an Assistant Roadway Design Engineer aligns well with the requirements of his new role. We are looking forward to the guidance and innovation he'll bring to Project Development," remarked Vicki K., Director of NDOT. Brandie Neemann: With over 25 years of experience at NDOT, Brandie has succeeded Mick Syslo as State Roadway Design Engineer. Throughout her career, Brandie has been instrumental in major agency initiatives, including the development of capital improvement project selection processes. As a proven transportation leader, Brandie will focus on modernizing business processes and expediting project delivery. "Brandie's outstanding work in Project Development has marked her as an exceptional candidate. We are excited about her ongoing leadership and expertise in Roadway Design," Kramer expressed.

Our team was privileged to participate in McCook Elementary's "Careers on Wheels" event. The crew discussed road maintenance techniques, including brine-based snow and ice removal methods and the use of cameras on our trucks. To provide an immersive experience, our team invited the students to climb into our loader and truck, allowing them to explore firsthand the equipment used in road maintenance operations. A huge thank you to Hwy. Maintenance Supt. Terry Einspahr, Auto/Diesel Mechanic, Spencer Smith, Sr. Maintenance Workers Sam Mueller, and Daniel Arp for speaking with the students.

Modular roundabouts offer a new way to improve intersections with significantly lower costs, installation times, and impacts. This roundabout in Ashland, cost $1.4 million (the average roundabout cost is $4 million to $5 million) and took 3 weeks to install. “As the Ashland Rescue Captain and long-time resident of Ashland, there have been several collisions of varying degree at this intersection. However, since the installation of the modular roundabout, there have been very few collisions. More importantly, the few collisions we have had have been minor compared to those we have experienced in the past.” - Tiffany Alcorn, NRAEMT, CHEP Ashland Rescue Captain

"Years of planning and investment have gotten us to today, where we continue our commitment to expanding I-80 west. We believe that by working together with our partners, we can build a better and safer future for all who call Nebraska home." - NDOT Director Vicki K. On Monday, April 29, NDOT hosted a press event to celebrate the start of the I-80 Six Lane Expansion Project at Nebraska Machinery Company's northwest Lincoln location right next to the interstate. Director Vicki Kramer, along with Governor Jim Pillen, Chris Hawkins of Hawkins Construction Company, and Senator Beau Ballard highlighted how NDOT's investment in the expansion of I-80 aims to reduce congestion, improve safety, and foster economic prosperity. The improved transportation network will also benefit local communities, making it easier for residents to access essential services, businesses, educational institutions, and recreational areas. Additionally, Governor Pillen and Nebraska State Patrol Captain Greg Miller gave an update on last weekend's storm damage. If you need resources to aid with storm damage recovery or help with clean-up, contact the Nebraska Emergency Management Agency or your local emergency management team.
