This week Mosaic’s Cheryl Wicks, Vice President of External Affairs, Sara Bartruff, Director of Financial Planning and Analysis and Alyse Preston, External Affairs Analyst spent time in Washington DC attending the Lutheran Services in America Health and Housing Summit and Advocacy Day. Together they were able to meet with key congressional offices and committee staffers including the U.S. Senate Committee on Finance, U.S. Senate Committee on Finance Subcommittee for Social Security, Pensions and Family Policy, U.S. House Education and Workforce Committee, U.S. Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) and a member of the Justice in Aging national organization regarding issues related to our mission. They specifically advocated for increased economic empowerment for those we support, wage increases for our workforce, reimbursement/funding increases, modernization of our system and recent final rules released from Department of Labor and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and the impact on our organization. Cheryl Wick’s final thoughts of their time in DC were “We had thought-provoking discussions that will aid in shifting policy for those we support. We truly have a seat at the table to influence federal policy.” Mosaic values our workforce and the grit and commitment they have to Mosaic and those we serve.

"We just want to be like everyone else. I couldn't believe just how helpful, supportive and how hard the Mosaic staff worked to get that commitment ceremony off the ground. There was absolutely no way we could have done it ourselves." Dan, who told Mosaic staff his "dream" would be a commitment ceremony to his true love Ashlie, also served by Mosaic. #WhyMosaic

"Karen, the person I serve, loves to plan the week's meals with me, and we eat dinner together with my husband and daughter. Karen's successes are mine, and mine are hers. You still have the provider-client relationship, but it's the much deeper and broader one you enjoy." Jill, Mosaic at Home provider #WhyMosaic

This week is National Volunteer Appreciation Week. Mosaic has hundreds of volunteers who help in many ways. Some help on our local sustainable fundraising teams, others help with local celebrations such as birthday parties and picnics. Mosaic is grateful for all of our volunteers and their dedication to our mission.
